Meet The Team
Our History
Magnolias Home Decor & Design was founded in 1995 by mother-daughter duo, Amy and Rachel.
Amy is a Master Floral Designer that got her start in the fresh flower design world when her first daughter, Leah, was born in 1990. After working in the fresh industry for many years in Rapid City, Amy moved back to Plainview, Nebraska where she started creating silk floral designs from her garage for craft shows all over Nebraska. Her mom, Rachel was a huge help in this endeavor as their designs became more and more popular.
Amy and Rachel soon needed a shop of their own for their growing business. They opened their first location in downtown Plainview, Nebraska and started filling their store with custom silk floral designs and home accessories. Being in a small town, they drew customers from surrounding towns, especially Norfolk.
Appealing to the demand for silk floral designs and accents in Norfolk, Amy and Rachel opened a second location in downtown Norfolk. They ran 2 locations for several years before moving everything to Norfolk for 1 location.
Downtown Norfolk has changed so much over the years and their downtown building was becoming too snug for their growing home decor and design business. Magnolias was moved across town to a larger location with more room to expand their offerings. In 2011, Magnolias added custom window treatments to their product offering. This new service filled a gap in the market and it grew in demand quickly as Amy and Rachel worked to hire new teammates for this new department.
In 2016, Amy and Rachel took a leap and purchased their own historic building in downtown Norfolk. Their new location between 4th and 5th street was 100 years old and was rich with character and charm. The construction crew worked tirelessly to bring Amy's vision to life keeping the original floors and pressed tin ceilings intact. After a year of renovating, Magnolias was officially ready to move to their new home back in downtown Norfolk!
Covid-19 took a huge toll on the nations mural and shut down many local businesses. Magnolias was able to pivot from the slower days by offering local pickup and Amy started showing the unique home decor and floral designs through Facebook live videos. With people home more than ever, demand grew for home decor and the positive Facebook live shopping videos. Amy's youngest daughter, Kate, moved back to Nebraska early in 2020 and was able to set up the store on a new system to offer their first-ever e-commerce website. Now Kate is a co-owner of Magnolias with her mom, Amy, making her a 3rd generation owner.
With a beautiful newly renovated downtown building and an expansive online offering of home accents and one-of-a-kind silk floral designs, Magnolias grew rapidly. Their online business soon exploded through their daily Facebook live videos on their online presence on Instagram, Pinterest, and Tiktok. Now mother-daughter duo Amy and Kate go live on Facebook 6 days a week with tips, tricks, new arrivals, and more home decor ideas to inspire! The new shipping department ships orders 6 days a week all over the U.S. and Canada in custom Magnolias packaging to delight and surprise their amazing customers from all over!
